DIGGING DEEPER
an online, in-depth discussion of one penstemon every month
Why do we need Digging Deeper? What is this about ?

As you probably know, the American Penstemon Society (APS) interviewed a number of their members in 2007 to learn more about what they wanted from APS. One idea which came up repeatedly was to feature one penstemon in depth in each issue of the Bulletin.

While our APS Blog is not the Bulletin, we think we can, in part, meet this need by tapping into the collective knowledge of all of you who read the APS Blog. It is you who will be the contributors. So we need your input. Any bit of information is important; bits and pieces can add up.

How will it work ?

In a Blog Post we will identify the penstemon-of-the month and invite you to make Comments about your experiences growing this penstemon.

It will also be important for you to identify in what part of the country you had the cultivation experience with the penstemon you are discussing.

Digging Deeper has the potential to broaden our understanding of the culture of many species.

When will the Digging Deeper penstemon-of-the month change?

The focus will change the first of every month.

I still have questions about Digging Deeper. Who can I ask?

If you are not sure how to participate, email me: blewis@iriscolorado.com
I t would help if in the subject of the email you said something like “Question About Digging Deeper.”

Who is invited to make comments online? Will they be screened?

Anyone wishing to make comments is invited to do so. Please be aware that Comments are read before they are published in order to screen for inappropriate material.

What will happen to the information at the end of the month when a new penstemon is featured?

The discussion pertaining to a featured penstemon will be summarized and made available online within the Cultivation Tab section of the website. It will be listed under Cultivation References under the heading “Species.”

When will “Digging Deeper” begin? Look for it July 1, 2008.

What penstemon will be featured July-September 2008?
